Move to Tackle Hunger

Chuck Monts is a recently retired Presbyterian minister whose churches have participated in our Souper Bowl of Caring events for his entire career.

Chuck, who is 62 years old, has embarked on an ambitious cross-country bicycle journey, “Bike for the Mission,” setting off from The Union Rescue Mission in Los Angeles, CA. on Saturday, June 5 at 7:00am, and ending at The Bowery Mission on the Lower East Side of Manhattan on July 31. During his two-month journey, Chuck plans to encourage people to find and support their local food charity through the Tackle Hunger Map.

You can exclusively follow Chuck’s progress live progress on our map at map.tacklehunger.org.

This is the second cross-country bicycle trip that Monts has attempted, although the last was when he was 18 and rode from Philadelphia to San Francisco.

“I’ve always dreamed of biking the country again for another good cause, and that cause came to be The Bowery Mission in Manhattan, because I was fortunate enough to work there these last couple of years, seeing firsthand the significant services they provide the hungry and homeless and troubled; and working with the amazing staff that serves those in need with such radical hospitality,” Monts said.

We are excited to support Chuck on his trip to Move to Tackle Hunger and wish him well as he supports local food charities across the country along the way.
